A PR and a Reflection

Something exciting about the marathon that I just figured out today is that the splits for the 1st and 2nd 1/2 of the race were 2:16:17 for the 1st half and 2:07:39 for the 2nd half!

My PR for the 1/2 marathon distance is 2:10:09 meaning that I got a 1/2 marathon PR in the 2nd 1/2 of a marathon!!! That's really cool :) Not sure if I count that as an actual PR since it wasn't done in a 1/2 marathon race, but it's exciting nonetheless. Imagine how fast I could go if I hadn't already run 13.1 miles? Perhaps breaking 2 hours isn't as far away as I thought :D

I looked back into my coolrunning log tonight and stumbled upon an entry from Monday, November 2nd 2004, which showed:

Running Training run 4:45 pm
4 miles41:14 (10:18/mile)

That felt so awsome to run for such a long time. Thats the longest that I've ever run in my life, and I sort of felt like I could have gone longer if I had wanted to. Body still getting achey though while I'm running, which sucks...that better not happen on thursday! i'm glad to be working out again though.

It's funny to remember a time when 4 miles was a long run and an exhilirating achievement :) Amazing how far you can come in 2 1/2 years!

I'm looking forward to my first post-race run tomorrow, hopefully 6 miles or so :D

You've come a long way. Congratulations! That 50k, next month, should be no problem.

That's terrific, Addy! Negative splits are always good - and to achieve a PR too -wow. Keep up the good training.

Great PR! I ran San Diego back in 2002, I think it was my second or third marathon. I like the running around Mission Bay. That was a pretty big negative split, nicely done. What 50K are you doing?

Fabulous negative split. Looks like you're stronger than you give yourself credit for. Your half-marathon PR counts BTW. It was a measured course under race conditions and you have your official timed splits. The only difference from an actual half-marathon is that you did a 13.1 mile warm up.

You're in great shape for you 50K. Also, I'd say you've got a sub 2 hour half in you.

Hey! Can you keep the negative comments down to a minimum?

Woo HOO! NEGATIVE SPLITS BABY!!!!

OK, I'm OK now... whew!

Great job, negative splits tell me you were in great shape and ran a smart race.

The best is yet to come.

terry- I can't believe it's next month! It's so soon already. I think I will be ready though :)

Jessica- I felt like I was speeding up a bit, but couldn't really tell. When I saw you guys around 22 I felt like slowing down, but you guys kept me going :)

michelle- thanks!

bret- I like the running around mission bay too! I'm doing the Tahoe Rim Trail 50k on July 21st.

phil- Thanks for validating my 1/2 :) How nice of you to say I've got that sub 2 in me. I'm not sure I have it now, but I don't think it's so outside the realm of possibility any more!

Tom- Thanks!!!

Eric- haha..thanks! The best is definitely yet to come, as I haven't run an ultra yet ;)
